Emergency Power Systems have rapidly evolved over the years, but maintenance and management practices of them seems to have lagged behind. At Powerserv we aim to set a new standard. Your EPS is a system consisting of many parts including generators and their fuel, exhaust and airflow systems, and electrical control and transfer equipment. These systems are required to sit stationary, constantly monitoring the status of your power supply, and when the power goes out they have to operate immediately and operate correctly the first time. Many parts of these systems require regular operation and monitoring to allow them the best chance to do this.
Diesel engines will fail if not run regularly.
Power switches will fail to operate if left too long. Items like batteries and heaters/hoses are consumables and must be replaced on a regular basis and before they fail. To manage this Powerserv operates a comprehensive Computerised Maintenance Management system. Not only do we regularly test your equipment to a high standard we record all details of your plant and track its maintenance history and status in a customised database. This system also allows us to keep up to date with your site specific requirements including inductions, access protocols, health and safety management and any other specific or regulatory requirements. To maintain these systems you need both a diesel mechanic and an electrician with knowledge of alternators and control systems.
A generator technician receives training in all generator systems. He can recognise signs of trouble before they cause a breakdown and get things put right.
